Maryland State Forests Camping

Where is the best place to camp in Maryland within 2 hours of Washington, DC?
I am considering Catoctin National Forest, but they do not take reservations for the campsite and I’m afraid it will be full by Friday evening. I am also considering Patapsco Valley, Susquehanna State Park, Elk Neck or Cedar Ville State Forest. I am interested in a wooded area with tent sites (not too many RVs or campers), where campfires are allowed.
Of all your choices and preferences I would still pick Catoctin National Forest. I go there often as a Maryland resident myself and have for years. This time of year reservations won’t be a problem since summer is over and the kids are back in school. It’s a beautiful park and the camp grounds are among the best I’ve seen. Elk Neck is great too but it’s a bit further away from you in Northeastern Maryland in Cecil County….They have an open fire ban now because of drought conditions..If it weren’t for that I would recommend both in a heartbeat..also avoid Patapsco Valley and Susquehanna State Park.Lots of RIF-RAF if you get my meaning.Happy Camping!
