Bear Camping

What do you do if your camping and a bear or coyote come by?

A lot depends on the type of bear. If it is a grizzly like they have in Alaska, then having a loud whistle will usually send him running, but not always. You may need a gun. For a Brown bear like they have in Yosemite, standing tall and yelling or banging pots together will always send him away. Guns are not necessary. Never ever run away from a bear with your back turned. This is an invitation for them to chase and catch you and they can run much faster then you. Coyote will just run away with some noise, but one tip is to never leave a small dog running around in a campground without you around as this would be a great meal for a coyote. I have heard of this happening in Yosemite.
