What’s the best time of year to go tent camping in Big Sur,California?

How about the best camping spot in that area and are there bears to worry about?

i live about 25 minutes away, and I can tell you that it has been a long time since bears were sited in the area, and that almost any campground there is great. the most popular ones are Fernwood, Riverside campground(popular with the locals too) and Pheiffer Big Sur State Park. Most of them will take reservations and it is recommended you get them. the best weather is in late august and most of September. It is usually nice and warm then, but the fog comes in most nights so be sure to pack warm clothes too.
