Colorado Camping Tips?

I found some information for the large park in Colorado, but I'm thinking simple, deprived of the way places I could go to without a permit and enjoy a night outdoors with a campfire. Is that possible in Colorado? Any suggestions? I am looking for a place you could go to Denver it's reasonable to drive at night or for just a couple of nights. When I am that you can do this simply because I'm not from Colorado and would help genial:) Thanks!
