As I passed the row of vendors cook meat, sausages, French fries and small yellow potatoes was tempting. Wearing a fedora and a smile the Grand Canyon, Charlie Martinez fronted his offer to buy freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh carrot juice strained. We call each. I opted for a sausage fried yellow potatoes. The potatoes were fine.  "Dona't sausage to eat," said my wife, Doris. I attended – even when I realized I was a little undercooked. That night I paid the price. The trips to the bathroom every 20 minutes was more or less. The smell alone could kill. I swallowed like a Gatorade Olympic athlete in training to help prevent dehydration my growth. Finally, in the morning we went to the emergency room. I had giardiasis.

Giardia is a microscopic parasite that moves with a pair of pins called flagella and lives in the small intestine. It is a common cause of diarrhea. Symptoms may include yellow, foul smelling diarrhea with bubbles or froth, without blood or mucus, an uncomfortable, bloating, mild cramping and a lot of gas. Diarrhea can be to and from day to day. Usually no fever. One symptom that is specific enough to defecate Giardiasis is stinking and difficult to evacuate immediately because float.

The recommended treatments are fairly straightforward. You could try 24 hours on clear liquids and a bland diet, fat-free diet with large amount of rest before starting antibiotics. Giardia infections can often disappear on their own. Â "Flagyl (metronidazole) 2 grams per day for 3 days or tinidazole (not available in the U.S.) are common. The drug quinacrine (mepacrine) works well, but can cause some side effects. Do not drink alcohol during treatment or if you feel sick. Medical treatment by a competent physician should be sought for any symptoms of disease, whereas in a foreign country.

Giardiasis is not usually does little harm, unless you are an unwanted guest and cause weight loss. My case was treated with tetracycline for three days. The organism is transmitted through poor hygiene, especially fecal-oral transmission. Always observe proper hygiene and Dona't eaten raw, uncooked or partially cooked. Do not take food or drinks with ice in them. Use treated or bottled water at all times. Hotels in the midrange and up can often recommend a doctor or treatment for minor illnesses, while you are abroad. Before traveling ita also a good idea to see your doctor for recommendations and advice. Protect their health. Protect yourself.
