Hiking in New York?

I live in New York, and I wonder if anyone can recommend a good campsite near the city (perhaps upstate or Pennsylvania) with clear views of the night sky? I want to go camping somewhere I can see the meteor shower in August, preferably somewhere within three hours city car. If you do not know the name of a camp That's OK, even a general area would be helpful. Thank you!
