My favorite annual festival of Pleasure Island is the southern coast of Bluegrass Festival held the first weekend in November each year.

Bluegrass Festival is a showcase of some of the best local and regional musicians in North Carolina. It seems that the love they feel in their hearts for music that shines through play with each chord. Some topics are heart wrenching, and some other finger Tappin maximum foot stompin ', is a moving experience for all.

It is our tradition to arrive early on Sunday morning, coffee and Danish in hand, to hear the gospel bluegrass bands perform. Usually it is still a bit cold before the sun warms during the day. I wear a jacket because I like seeing the sun burns the mist from the river as the day begins to warm, with music playing in the background can be a truly spiritual experience.

Fort Fisher Military Recreation Base where the event is held is in a beautiful place near the river Cape Fear. It is to be in the festival to bring lawn chair or blanket. Doors open Saturday at 9:30 am and close at 6:30 pm. Sunday hours are 10:30 until 6:00 pm. Usually spend the whole day: there is plenty to eat, arts and crafts in the store, stories and later in the day when things have warmed obstruction and square dancing are great fun to watch.

As with music, arts and crafts for sale are local, handmade items. One of my vendors favorites is a local beekeeper who sells honey and nuts. (Ward, nuts and honey) There is also a local winery, Silver Coast, with fantastic wines for sale you can drink at the festival or take home for later. There is a girl who is starting and sell one of the bracelets of the rainbow, earrings, necklaces and other trinkets. I like the feeling of familiarity at the Bluegrass Festival, came to visit with the same people year after year. It seems that no longer has an attendance as large as some of our other events, offering more of an opportunity to talk with the artisans and meet other people at the festival there for music and dancing. Definitely is a family event.
