In today € ™ s the economy, most families have to focus in food, clothing, and care for themselves. So when those same families out of their way to help those in need, donations are much more significant. On October 25, DirectBuy of Suffolk County held itâ € ™ s second unit annual food festival and the fall, the collection of more than 600 pounds of food and supplies to Long Island Cares, the only food bank on Long Island.

Besides the food drive, members of the Hauppauge-based showroom were invited to a day of fun and festivities. DirectBuy of Suffolk County is the local branch of DirectBuy, Inc., a company of home furniture and remodeling that allows members to buy directly from over 700 brand name manufacturers and authorized suppliers with no mark retail concealed-up.

â € œWe have run a successful business in Suffolk County for over 18 years € DirectBuy, said the president of Suffolk County, and franchise owner Rob Bengston. â € œWe wanted to celebrate with our loyal members, and do something good in the same time.â €

The DirectBuy Suffolk staff chose to support Long Island Cares and now food banks are desperate for help. At Long Island Cares was founded in 1980 by the late singer and activist Harry Chapin in response to the needs of the hungry on Long Island. The leading organization fighting Hunger works with other charities to fight hunger in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

â € œLong Island Cares is a program wonderful and very necessary, especially in today's economic conditions, â € said DirectBuy member Purnima Shah, who attended the festival.

DirectBuyâ € ™ s Showroom Suffolk was brightly decorated with ribbons, balloons and more than 40 baskets of gifts that are raffled off to those who brought food non-perishable or other supplies. The baskets include gifts of kitchenware, artwork, toys, camping and sports equipment, movie tickets, theater tickets and articles gift. The children were entertained with balloon art and face painting, and all the guests enjoyed treat a variety of dishes from around the festival.
