I personally believe that mobile phones are a blight on our culture. I have no idea why someone would want to be reachable at any time of day and night, and I think the need for mundane tasks chat with friends, while a day's business ( "Hi … I am alone in the articles section camping at Kmart …") indicates a profound insecurity.

Unfortunately, I am totally out of step with the rest of society in my dislike for mobile as most people seem to believe that a Nokia is a viable "lifestyle choice". However, unrestricted use of your Motorola is a great way to lose brownie points to a date.

I recommend that if you leave your mobile behind a date. If you can not bring yourself to do this, then at least off (and consider the advice – Mobile anyone Anonymous?).

If you receive a call while on a date, the form is very poor to chat with your buddies or girls when I should be giving full attention to date. Nobody will think you're a big shot to take business calls every five minutes, either. Only you think you are rude – or a drug dealer.

If you must have phone with you on a date, here are some tips on the label:

1. Date let you know in advance that you are expecting a call.

2. If you must answer a call in public, talk quietly – that All not want to hear about it.

3. If you are in the movie, turn your phone off. If the phone rings, will embarrass the date and, especially if some of the film police abuse other attendees.

4. If you have to make a call to a restaurant, excuse the table and go somewhere private.

5. If you are expecting an urgent call, turn your phone off. You can always check your voice mail later.
