Camping South Carolina Coast
What are some fun places to stop on our Camping/Road trip (MN ~> Nashville ~> Savannah ~> So Carolina ~> MN)?
We’re leaving from Minnesota to Nashville, staying for a couple nights, then headed to Savannah (over Labor day), and then the South Carolina Coast. Are there any cool spots along the way, or fun places in those areas? We’re in our mid 20′s so looking for some fun and interesting stops.
When you say camping and South Carolina together you have to try out two state parks. One is just above Lancaster, miles east of Rock Hill, 15 miles south of Matthews, a suburb of Charlotte. It has Andrew Jackson old home on it and it is a museum now. Lots of fun stuff to do nearby, or just sit and enjoy the quiet and the small lake. 25 miles east you can find Pageland, SC watermelon capital of the world. Forgot the name of the restaraunt but it is in the middle of town. They offer a free 5 pound steak if you can eat it all. Cooked the way you like it, But go in hungry because it comes with all the trimmings and cooked the way you like it. Then there is another state park out in Cheraw. SC it use to have two small (6-8 foot) gators there. Great lake and golf. While in Cheraw, jump back to Chesterfield and eat at the BP in the middle of town, Try some of the best pulled pork BBQ in the world. If you are going back up on 95 try out the South of the Border attractions. If you are going back up I-77. If you like amusement parks, Carowinds will surely please your fancy. (In Charlotte, the first NC exit, turn left at bottom of ramp its on the right about a mile up. And stay for the fireworks.)
