Camping on the beach?

Ok, for all you campers out there experienced beach … I am planning a camping trip to the Mustang Island which is north of Parents in Texas. I need to know the issues that will need to wear (I have an element of camp just yet) some tips for a fun, time is busy, and know-how on starting a fire (he tried one on V-Day and was successful in 4 hours and a bottle of liquid coal later). Any advice and suggestions would be awesome! THANKS!

Beach camping is different from other types of camping. Pitching a tent in the sand is difficult. In addition to all normal gear (tent, sleeping bag, clothing, food, etc): 1. Bring tent stakes LONG – 12 inches or more for use in the sand 2. Be prepared for a constant wind on or off the coast. Pitch your tent in a corner in the wind. Otherwise the tent will be supported in the attack 3. Plan on finding sand in everything – shoes, crotch, sleeping bag, food, car, etc. 4. You must have a wind break on all fires and stoves. The wind makes it difficult to keep a cooking stove and blows the heat of stoves and grills. 5. Sunscreen – lots of it and reapply regularly and often 6. Beware of car / traffic truck. Do not camp your campsite in the middle of the beach. You get hit in the middle of the night.
