Camping Utah Valley

I'm in Las Vegas, and I want to go camping this weekend in a cool, calm AMD. What's nearby?

I'm tired of the heat in the Valley Las Vegas, and I want to go camping this weekend. When is a good place that is free, off the road, and nice and cool? I am looking for the higher elevation, and probably closer to Utah or somewhere north of Las Vegas. All good suggestions, let me know. (And somewhere that is good would be shooting well, but not required)

I'll be doing my 3rd trip in just a few months Navajo Lake Utah for next week. It is about 30 miles up Cedar City. It is 400 miles round trip from Las Vegas. We took a little over 3 hours one way. He did it in a tank of gas too …. fair. You hurry to height and is already flirting with the upper 30's some nights. Still stands around the 70's during the day. Beautiful lake. Tons of poplar. Hiking and biking. The trout fishing is one of the best around. The camp was officially closed on 9 / 4, but I called the ranger station and said that just means the host left camp for the year. So no running water in the bathroom and not be able to buy firewood, but the field is still allowed to use. Even if it closes there are tons of coast that can be installed anywhere. Fire restrictions have been lifted so while you are camping within 200 feet of the coast and have a ring of fire that are good to go. The lake and the field is in the draft National Forest, but what there is about 1000 hectares of nowhere. I am sure that if you know the laws then some of these lands can be shot / Hunt in I recommend it! Feel free to email me for more information.
