What Are Some Good Musicals On DVD?

I need to watch some more musicals, but sadly, I can’t go see live musicals all the time. :x

The following are my favorites:
Legally Blonde (Live)
Chicago
Phantom Of The Opera
Moulin Rouge!
RENT
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Repo! The Genetic Opera

PLEASE, NO HIGHSCHOOL MUSICAL OR CAMP ROCK.

I haven’t seen a hyooge number of musicals on DVDs, but in my experience live recordings of stage productions if much closer to the live experience than film adaptations.

“Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Webber is available on DVD, and is the production is top notch. The film adaptation of “Evita” by the same dude is commendable, as are the film adaptations of “West Side Story” (with Natalie Wood) and “My Fair Lady” (with Audrey Hepburn).

Seeing as you’re headed down that path, do you think you might be interested in operas and operettas? There are many more good DVDs of live recordings of operas than there are of musicals. Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas are hilarious and accessible. For operas and operettas, I suggest checking out:

La Boheme

Pirates of Penzance

The Magic Flute-fantastical adventure with folk melodies and talking birds

You may have heard its infamous aria:
