Do you have tips for a low-budget road trip from Denver to Cali?

I’m wanting to take a two-person week-long road trip from Denver to San Jose/San Francisco and then LA. The biggest car we have is a ’95 Toyota Camry. We’ve never camped but would like to try. We don’t have much money; probably $1000 max.

Haven’t done much research yet, so any advice on what to do and see would be welcome. We like beautiful scenery and trying new things.
Forgot to mention, we do have family in San Jose to stay with.

it should not be a problem to stay under the 1000 dollar limit. you are looking to probably travel about 2500 miles and for gas that will be approximately $250 to $350 dollars. if you pack a cooler full of food and sandwich stuff then the food is really cheap. also i would suggest one of a couple different options, either take turns driving, and get there in about 15-18 hours that way you dont have to spend money to stay anywhere, and you get more time to spend at your destination, or stay in your car at a gas station or rest stop or parking lot. its free! or if you prefer camping would be fun. (and cheap).

hope you have fun! travel safe!
